Sample edits are a great way to tangibly show you what a copy edit from me looks like. It also helps me to determine a quote for a project, to see the shape that a document’s in, and assess if we’re a good match to work together.
Usually you will send me either a chapter or 10,000 words from the middle of the manuscript and I’ll return it to you within two business days with my edits and comments. From there, we’ll discuss if we’d both like to move forward with a full copy edit.

When I receive it, every chapter, section, and paragraph should be ready to be examined line by line and word by word.

I do not currently use generative AI in my business, and I only use AI detection software to check for plagiarism while editing. I am aware of AI detection software that are problematic and give false positives. That said, I’m still learning about this topic, and this answer might change in the future.
